about

Places of Amusement License

A Places of Amusement License is needed to operate a place open to the public for purposes of entertainment either free or for a fee. Applicable laws require that permission be granted by the Municipal Corporation of the Parish in which the event is to be held and the Local Police.

There are two types of Places of Amusement Licences that are granted by Municipal Corporations:

1. Annual Licence - The annual licence is appropriate for businesses that offer entertainment to the public as part of their routine daily operations.

2. Special Event – Granted to persons or businesses hosting special entertainment events through out the year at the same location or various locations throughout the municipality. Application deadline should be at least ten (10) working days before the date of the event for events that are expected to have less than 1000 patrons. For events that are expected to have more than 2000 patrons application for an Amusement Licence should be received no later than twenty one (21)working days before the date of the event.

Nosie Abatement (JCF) Permit

Under the Noise Abatement Act, it is required for organisers to make a written request or application to the Commanding Officer for the parish or the division in which they intend to host that event at least 10 days prior to hosting it.

The Noise Abatement Act controls noise from amplified sound to protect people's peace and quiet. Operating an entertainment event without a permit is a breach of the Act and can lead to prosecution.

The JCF, after assessing your application and potentially inspecting the venue, will advise on whether the permit is granted.
